Amsterdam – The City That Fascinates You

Before I start penning down carefully crafted Amsterdam itineraries and blog posts for you guys, I wanted to write about this wonderful city that fascinated me even before I visited it! No city has allured me like Amsterdam before. Not because of the infamous cannabis or sex, but because of its deep rooted history and now the modernization. I doubt if there is any city in the history that has its roots this deep and yet has aligned itself to the modern civilization and its ways this easily. The blend is almost too overwhelming to absorb.

Being a hip-happening city that still maintains its old charms, Amsterdam has something to offer for everyone. Art, history, architecture and photography lovers will have the time of their life here. Shoppers will regret not coming with a big empty suitcase than spending time on packing. The never ending lists of museums, parks, churches, restaurants, cafe`s and bars. Not to mention the beautiful Amstel River that sensually flows through this Medieval Age’s city in alluring canals. The new age has successfully managed to elude Amsterdam up its sleeve and in a good way! The city is probably one of the earliest adopters of the latest technologies in the world, contributing its part to the eco-friendly world as well. Much more than the number of people in Amsterdam are bicycles and electric vehicles. The electric vehicle recharge points are ever increasing, 650 and counting! By the end of 2040, they have the plan to convert each car here to electric. That’s amazing. A decade earlier than the estimated burn out of our fossil fuels. Amsterdam is also the startup hub of Netherlands (and the Europe) with hundreds of startups finding its way here.

The more one learns about the history of Amsterdam, the more they will get lost, for sure. Because their history is not just a bunch of stories of what happened in the past and when. They are worthy material to include in the current architecture, art, business and management curriculum. Generations and generations of people, from all walks, race and ethnicity have found a haven here. In fact, it probably is because of the wide group of people that Amsterdam is what it is today. Liberal and a die-hard follower of live and let live. People here won’t force you to live your life their way. They are more than happy to welcome and accommodate you as long as you do not encroach their space in any way. My fascination and obsession with the city went through the roof when I learnt that there were more people living in Amsterdam during the Golden Age than NOW! Richest of the rich have lived here which is completely evident from their lifestyle that we could trace back just by visiting couple of places.

The vibe of the city tends to rub off on every visitor of Amsterdam. Its easy to spend days, weeks or even months in this wonder city. Exploring, vacationing, absorbing and even being one among the Amsterdamers Smile

Loads more coming your way from Amsterdam. Its 0 degrees as I write this down. But that hasn’t deterred my wish to explore this wonder. Have you visited and explored Amsterdam?
